Mike Ezuruonye’s impersonator pleads guilty, bags 1-yr sentence

A Federal High Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State, played host to a case involving one Ekoh Noel who was arrested for impersonating popular Nollywood actor Mike Ezuruonye on Facebook.

The convict was arraigned on a one-count charge by the EFCC Benin Zonal Office of obtaining by false pretense after it was established that he impersonated and represented himself as Mike Ezuruonye on social media to defraud his victims.

The convict upon his arraignment pleaded guilty to the charge and in view of his plea, the prosecution counsel, Larry Aso Peters, prayed the court to convict and sentence the defendant accordingly.

Before Justice P. I. Ajoku convicted Noel to one-year imprisonment for his crime, the defense counsel, N.I. Oriazowanlan pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy as the convict was a first time offender.

Recall that in the month of March this year, one Godspower Osaigbovo Uhunmwangho who allegedly goes about impersonating Mike Ezuruonye online was also nabbed by security operatives.

The suspect who was questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was arrested after the actor reached out to the men of the force to fish out the culprit.

According to the actor, the suspect defrauded unsuspecting people abroad, collecting large sums of money from female fans of the actor abroad.

The suspect who hails from Benin was also alleged to have used Mike’s image and videos as he superimposed his own voice to deceive the women.

Film Company To Turn Thai Cave Boys Saga In A Movie

A Thai-based film company has joined the scramble to retell the dramatic story of the 12 young footballers and their coach who were freed from a flooded cave, one of the producers said Tuesday.

Since the ‘Wild Boars’ team were extracted from Tham Luang cave in northern Thailand two months ago, there has been a frenzy of media interest in the feel-good tale that captivated the world for weeks.

Documentary makers and Hollywood producers have tussled to get films off the ground, with journalists also spinning book deals from the real-life rescue mission.

A Bangkok production company called De Warrenne Pictures are the latest to agree on financing to make their version called “The Cave” with shooting planned for November.

“The project is already set,” producer Katrina Grose told AFP, of a movie that will be directed by Tom Waller — a Bangkok-based filmmaker of mixed Thai-Irish descent.

The operation to save the boys, who wandered into the cave after a football training session and became stuck as floodwaters surged in, involved expert cave divers from across the world.

They were found after 11 days huddled on a muddy ledge without food or fresh water, floodwaters lapping ominously below them.

An ex-Thai Navy SEAL died in the run-up to the daring extraction of the group, who were heavily sedated as they were carried, pulled and dragged free from deep inside the cave.

Initially, after their rescue officials imposed a blanket ban on coverage, fearing for the boys‘ mental health with the world’s media camped up in rural Thailand.

But efforts to shield the team have crumbled with TV networks jostling for interviews and the Thai junta organising a seemingly endless stream of media events.

In one of the most bizarre, last Thursday, the boys were encouraged to crawl through a mock-up tunnel in a recreated cave in a Bangkok megamall, where a zone has been dedicated to the rescue.

Best new shows and movies to stream: ‘Mother!,’ ‘The Mummy,’ and more

On the list this week: A mother, a mummy, and a fly-man walk into a bar …

best new shows and movies to stream mother

If great art is meant to provoke strong reactions, then Darren Aronofsky’s Mother!might be one of the towering achievements of recent years. No other film drew such sharply polarized reactions from critics and filmgoers, some of whom saw it as a brilliant parable while others cast it off as self-indulgent dreck. The film begins with a married couple: A poet known as Him (Javier Bardem) and his wife, Mother (Jennifer Lawrence). The two live alone in an old house and enjoy a seemingly peaceful existence until strangers appear at their door. First comes a boorish man (Ed Harris), then the man’s ominous wife (Michelle Pfeiffer), and soon the house is swollen with guests who have come to see Him, much to Mother’s chagrin. A taut psychological thriller that draws on more than a little Biblical imagery, Mother! may not be a film that everyone loves, but it is one that offers plenty to chew on.

Step into a time machine, and travel back to the year 1999, when Brendan Fraser was Hollywood’s leading man of choice. Universal Pictures decided to resurrect one of its classic monsters, The Mummy (once played by Boris Karloff), for a new film that drew more on Raiders of the Lost Ark and Lawrence of Arabia than the creature features of the 1930s. After a brief prologue set in ancient Egypt, the film moves to the 1920s, where siblings Jonathan (John Hannah) and Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz) come into possession of a map leading to the lost city of Hamunaptra. The two enlist the map’s previous owner, an American and former Legionnaire named Rick O’Connell (Fraser), to guide them to the lost city. Their adventure brings them up against rival treasure hunters, a mysterious organization, and an ancient, supernatural evil. The Mummyisn’t high art, but it is a jolly good adventure film, with the sort of swashbuckling charm that modern action movies often lack.

Bureaucracy is imperfect, even in the afterlife. That’s what Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell) learns after she dies and the folks running the afterlife mix her up with a human rights lawyer of the same name. Now living in “the Good Place,” a utopian land built by the immortal architect Michael (Ted Danson), the selfish Eleanor must learn to pass as a good person, with help from an ethics professor named Chidi (William Jackson Harper), philanthropist Tahani (Jameela Jamil), and DJ Jason Mendoza (Manny Jacinto). The Good Place is a funny show, to be sure, with a cast of comic superstars who play off each other well, but it’s also a smart, high-concept story, unafraid to search for humor in philosophy.

best new shows and movies to stream the fly

David Cronenberg’s sci-fi/horror film The Fly is as gruesome today as it was in 1986, a nightmarish reboot of the 1958 film (which is nightmarish in its own way) about a man who pursues knowledge too eagerly and pays a terrible price. The film follows Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum), a scientist working on a device that can teleport objects between two pods. After starting a relationship with journalist Veronica Quaife (Geena Davis), Seth manages to fine-tune his machine to safely teleport living organisms, then tests it on himself. As he boots up the machine, a fly gets into the teleporter along with him, and the two merge. Although Seth seems normal at first, he slowly starts to exhibit some bizarre changes, becoming stronger, more aggressive, and climbing on walls. The Fly is a grotesque film: Cronenberg spares the audience no details as Brundle transforms, slowly and painfully, into a man-fly hybrid, and Goldblum is perfect as the brilliant but tormented scientist.

best new shows and movies to stream ozark season 2

Financial adviser Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman) has a cushy life thanks not only to his job, but also his side gig laundering money for a Mexican cartel. After his business partner tries to cheat the cartel, however, they kill him, and prepare to do the same to Marty until he offers a deal: He’ll set up an operation for them in the Missouri Ozarks, where, he promises, he can launder a huge amount of money for them. Marty relocates his family, including unfaithful wife, Wendy (Laura Linney), to Missouri, but his plan gets complicated by some local criminals. Ozark draws a lot of comparisons to television masterpiece Breaking Bad, given its main character is a family man who gets embroiled in a criminal conspiracy, but its rural setting and Bateman’s somewhat villainous turn help the show stand on its own.
